Buckle up people, after so much anticipation for a year Fenty skin is finally here. After Rihana’s global success in music, fashion, and make-up industry. She is now coming into the skincare world. It will be launched on 31st July 2020.  In March last year, she trademarked Fenty skin. Since there has been a lot of speculation of new skincare line in Fenty beauty but nothing was confirmed until now. According to the trademark, her skincare line will include medicated and non-medicated skin care preparations and soaps, body kits comprising non medicated body care preparation.

Last week she posted a teaser on her Instagram account featuring A$AP Rocky and Lil Nas X with a bunch of models of different skin tones. The teaser not exactly showed what the products will be but based on the looks I guess there are 3 products consisting of a cleanser, toner, and sunscreen. Fenty skin is the first gender-inclusive skincare line that has been introduced on such a bigger scale. With the amount of hype and praises from fans, it is speculated that it will be sold out within minutes.

However, introducing only 3 products in her skincare is not up to her standard which she set with the launch of 42 shades of foundation in her makeup line. They are quite minimal. Adding face serums, essential oils would be more appealing. Maybe she wants to test the market and analyze how the public will react to it then come up with more options, who knows. Many brands are notorious for adopting such strategies earlier. Dubai based brand Farsali only came up with rose gold elixir and unicorn essence (face oil). Literally it went viral. Based on the reaction and popularity they introduced more options like a highlighter etc.

People’s mindset on grooming is now changing; many brands such as Noto, Ursa Major are making gender-neutral products. And I feel the future of skincare and makeup will be gender inclusive.

Her skincare line will surely break the barriers of the ideology that skincare is only limited to females. Men’s skincare is not really talked about in mainstream even after there is enormous demand for such products in the market. I feel men’s stereotypes are much narrower as compared to females. Whenever a guy tries to do something that doesn’t fit into a masculinity mold made by society, he is considered as weak, girly, or gay. But when a girl tries to wear her boyfriend’s clothes or dress up like dudes, she is a tomboy. Actually it is in trend wearing bigger size clothes for women. Meanwhile, men’s grooming or skincare routine is always brushed under the rag. Do you really think these male celebrities have perfectly radiant skin whenever they are on the red carpet or in the public event? It is because of the makeup. We are not aware of this because it’s not really talked about.

Rihanna has always been someone who has acknowledged the issue of the general public face and tries to rectify it through her products. She has her way of doing work that is so unique and appealing to the public which makes her stand out from her competitors. From 42 shades of foundation to lingerie for every size.   Rihanna is changing the fashion business by making it more into comfort and inclusivity than just a fake fantasy.
