Adeera Packaging’s CEO Mr. Sushant Gaur Reveals the Vision Behind Sustainable Packaging Revolution in Exclusive Interview with Startup Reporter

Adeera Packaging – Started in 2019, Adeera Packaging is one of India’s largest manufacturers of sustainable packaging. We replace around 20 plastic bags per second with environment-friendly packaging and save 17,000 trees per month from being chopped by using recycled or agro-waste-based paper to make bags.We provide daily deliveries, fast turnaround times of 5-25 days and we also provide solutions through customization of bags to our customers. Adeera Packaging was formed as a manufacturing company, but over the years we have realised that our value lies in the service that we provide our buyers. We deliver our product to over 30,000 pincodes in India. Adeera Packaging’s purpose is to make the planet a better place for future generations which we want to achieve by creating a global presence to democratize supplies of environment-friendly packaging.

 

Can you briefly describe your experience in the packaging industry and how you started this company, and where did you get this idea from?

The Paper Bag industry is very dynamic and vibrant in India because of tailwinds being provided by regulations against single use plastic around the world. We got into the industry as a combination of childhood fascination driven by the “Say no to Plastic Bags” movement when I was in grade 5 and early information on a forthcoming ban on plastic bags.

Adeera Packaging specializes in sustainable packaging solutions. How do you stay updated on the latest trends and developments in sustainable packaging?

We can proudly say that our understanding of the trends in the market are first hand by being present in the markets of more than 9 countries, speaking to machine manufacturers directly and physically visiting larger players in our industry across continents. We also invest regularly in R&D to innovate new products and have recently launched aluminum-lined paper bags.

Adeera Packaging serves clients from various industries. How would you approach understanding the unique packaging needs of different clients and industries?

The end uses of paper bags are evolving very quickly due to the aversion of customers to use plastic. New technologies are being developed to make peel and seal bags, scratch-protection packaging, flour packaging bags and disposal bags. The way we approach this is by having an intrinsic understanding of the tech that goes into making paper and the machines so we are able to develop these products with lightning speed.

Can you give an example of a challenging packaging project you worked on in the past? How did you approach the challenges, and what was the outcome?

An international electronics brand came to us to develop scratch-proof packaging to replace their plastic covers on downlighters. After a few iterations, we developed a paper with higher bulk with a light barrier coating to keep moisture from passing through. This is a very successful product that we developed and is now being used by many manufacturers of electronic and metal products to replace the use of plastics in their packaging.

Adeera Packaging aims to reduce waste and optimize resources. How would you contribute to this goal in your role?

We use 100% recycled paper that has been made using post-consumer waste or we use paper made from agricultural waste. 100% of our paper waste is recycled. We are very close to being waste neutral in our company.

The packaging industry is constantly evolving. How do you stay motivated to learn and adapt to new technologies, materials, and design concepts?

We cause the said evolution, it won’t happen itself. We are proud to have pioneered many practices and products that are now considered to be industry standards. Our intrinsic need to make a sustainable world drives us towards innovation.

Adeera Packaging aims to deliver exceptional customer service. How do you prioritize and manage multiple client projects simultaneously to ensure timely delivery and customer satisfaction?

Having a vast customer service team really helps manage multiple projects however I its more of a culture thing. Our moto is “Quality, Service, Relationships” which is ingrained in all of our processes.

Continuous improvement is an important aspect of Adeera Packaging’s culture. Can you share an experience when you identified an opportunity for improvement in a packaging process or procedure and successfully implemented the changes?

There was a predominant assumption that recycled paper could not be made to be food grade and customers in EU never tested out new papers. We introduced recycled papers in food packaging with a very large (1000+ stores) customer in EU and were able to beat all parameters of quality and were 30% cheaper.
