Arpit Singh, a 25-year-old former employee of education tech startup Byju’s, recently revealed his experience of being laid off from the company. Singh received a message from the management one evening, informing him that the human resources department would be meeting him the following day.
Shock and Struggle to Accept the Loss of Employment
During the meeting at Byju’s Delhi office, held from 10 am to 12 pm, Singh received information that the company was facing difficulties and had to part ways with him.It took Singh around 15 days to come to terms with the loss of his job, as he had dedicated long hours and believed his performance was strong.
Personal and Financial Challenges Faced by Former Byju’s Employee
Singh served his notice period from May 16 until June 22, during which time he felt disconnected from normal life. He chose not to inform his parents about his termination to avoid further impacting his father’s health. With minimal savings and uncertain financial circumstances, Singh had to move to a friend’s place in Delhi.
Struggling to Secure New Employment and Pursue UPSC Examinations
As Singh seeks new opportunities, he has applied to over 1,000 jobs since June and attended around 30 interviews. However, he has yet to find suitable employment due to salary expectations. Despite this, Singh remains determined to secure a government job and plans to make another attempt at the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) examinations, which he pursued previously.
The recent wave of layoffs at Byju’s, reportedly affecting around 1,000 employees, marks the fifth round of layoffs by the company.
