24 September 2023, Bangalore: Asmee is a digital storytelling space. It’s mission is to provide digital media platform to women who has a story which inspires others to achieve financial independence. We seek the empowerment of women through the medium of storytelling and digital media
The growth and the emergence of social media, an aspect of digital technology, has provided women technolgy and digital platforms for sharing their heartfelt and pivotal experiences, learning new things, and also openly challenging gender inequality.
Women for the first time are holding unhindered conversations that were considered taboo in offline spaces. Asmee’s vision is to provide every woman the opportunity to flourish irrespective of the circumstances on their platform.
The company is based out of Bangalore. It is the brainchild of two passionate women entrepreneurs, Iti Rawat and Mohua Chinappa. Both are driven towards making a difference for women’s economic and social independence status in modern India
Asmee recognizes the importance of creating a digital content space that will give women a platform to tell their stories via a videocast, a podcast, and also written material that they can use for their business pitches or marketing their content.
Asmee’s focus is to empower more women towards economic and social independence. In one of the recent reports by CMIE data shows that in 2016-17, females comprised only 15.3 percent of the labour force in India. This fell to 12 percent in 2019-20 and fell further to a mere 10.3 percent in 2022-23. The pandemic came as a major setback to women entrepreneurship and women in business were more effected than men. Needless to say there is a push needed for bringing the balance back.
McKinsey Global Institute (MGI) estimates that India could boost its GDP by USD 0.7 trillion by bringing 68 million more women into India’s workforce by 2025. Asmee aims to educate society about women’s financial independence to create a more progressive and safe environment for them to join businesses and workforce.
According to Mohua Chinappa, an author and a podcaster of the successful podcast The Mohua Show, said “Women are being recognised as a equal partner in all fields of work, yet they struggle to be seen and heard. At Asmee, our focus is to provide a space for women where we celebrate their womanhood and their life stories. The women who will be given a platform need not be from Harvard or Yale to be able to share the knowledge of the incredible work they are doing in their ecosystems”.
According to Iti Rawat, a social entreprenuer, professional speaker and content developer, said “Asmee was my dream of creating opportunities for women across India, who hesitate to tell their stories and need that push and support to be able to inch their way towards equality, empowerment and economic independence. I have always been moved by women’s stories and with Asmee, we are planning to give more women a voice that was unheard before”.
