Amazon unveils original series “Mission Start Ab” to promote startups in India

In a confirmation of earlier reports, Amazon has announced the upcoming launch of “Mission Start Ab,” a seven-episode series that highlights startups and local innovation in India. Partnering with New Delhi’s Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, Amazon is currently in production for the show, which features 10 early-stage startups. The e-commerce giant plans to begin streaming the series on Prime Video in the near future.

Amazon’s Focus on Entrepreneurship and Startups in India

Chetan Krishnaswamy, Vice President of Public Policy at Amazon India, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting and nurturing entrepreneurs in India. He stated, “Over the years, we have taken a number of initiatives to propel India’s start-up ecosystem. Today, we are excited to announce this Amazon Original show on Prime Video, in association with the Office of Principal Scientific Adviser, Government of India. We believe this show will inspire many individuals to choose the path of entrepreneurship and contribute to advancing the government’s ‘Start-up India’ initiative.”

TV Show to Identify Promising Startups in India

According to sources familiar with the matter, Amazon is set to debut a TV show in India that aims to identify promising startups in the South Asian market. The Prime Video show, developed in collaboration with various government bodies and local investors, will showcase innovation from smaller cities and towns in India.Additionally, Amazon intends to offer financial support to startups through its $250 million Smbhav fund, which focuses on India.

Entrepreneurship Narratives in Indian Media

With the surge of startups in India, there has been a cultural phenomenon of increased media narratives around entrepreneurship.The combination of tech-savvy talent and supportive government policies in the South Asian market fuels this trend.Movies and TV shows, such as “Physics Wallah – Achcha Teacher” on Amazon’s miniTV and “TVF Pitchers” on Zee5, are showcasing startup stories, creating a mutually beneficial relationship between real-life innovation and its cinematic portrayal. Amazon’s entry into this space with “Mission Start Ab” further underscores the growing interest in and recognition of startups in India’s media landscape.
