Harekrishna Mahto, a 25-year-old Googler, was born in Muzaffarpur, Bihar and attended school in Vapi, Gujarat. Computers always fascinated him, and his love of computer games led to an early interest in coding. He later graduated with a B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering. His desire to master competitive programming prompted him to look online for top company instructors to learn full-stack development to pursue his long-held dream of working at Google. He came across Newton School and joined its first batch of Full-Stack Development Course. After completing the course, Mahto landed a paid internship at Rapido, where he got a pre-placement offer and joined as a Product Engineer. His parents came from a middle-class family where his father was a business owner; they had no idea what a software developer was; all they cared about was that their son had found a good job. After a few months at Rapido, he moved on to work as an SDE for Zomato.

During college, he did not have technical as well as job-relevant skills and had no idea about how the industry works. He wanted to have that industry access to know how the technology industry works. For this reason, he went ahead to learn full-stack development through online resources like YouTube but saw that there is no proper structure or guidance. Soon after that, he came across Newton School and decided to enroll. Mahto has always wanted to build products and apps that can transform people’s lives for good. His motivation to make a difference made his dream to work with Google even stronger. However, he lacked the confidence to face interviews which made him anxious. Mahto changed the narrative with personalized learning at Newton School, one-on-one monthly coding contests, and industry-oriented projects. His growth year at Newton School was his arsenal during job interviews.

His long-cherished dream was realized thanks to his perseverance and guidance from Newton School. He received a whopping 64.50 lakh per annum package from Google India even after not graduating from a college with a high placement rate. Mahto has joined the Bangalore Google office as a Software Engineer. His family stays in Bihar. He adds and advises his fellow youngsters that to excel in today’s workforce, clearly defining why you want to make a big move is incredibly important to keep yourself motivated on a long journey.

In a country where graduates are left with single-digit employability rates despite spending significant amounts of money on education, Newton School, an outcome-based neo-university by Siddharth Maheshwari and Nishant Chandra, is supporting the aspirations of millions of Indians.
