New Delhi, April 2024: SS Innovations, the developer of India’s first indigenous surgical robotic system, the SSI Mantra, dedicated to making robotic surgeries cost-effective and accessible to a global population, has achieved a monumental milestone in Indian medical history. Dr. Chandra Mohan Vaddi, Senior Urologist & Managing Director of Preeti Urology & Kidney Hospitals, Hyderabad, successfully performed a groundbreaking surgery on a one-year-old infant using the SSI Mantra surgical robotic system. This surgery marks a significant advancement in pediatric robotic surgery and a testament to the capabilities of the SSI Mantra system, marking another significant milestone in the annals of the company.

The one-year-old patient from Bidar, Karnataka, was brought by parents to the Preeti Urology and Kidney Hospital. The infant was suffering from left kidney swelling due to a significant block at the Uretero-Pelvic junction, that was diagnosed during the mother’s pregnancy. With severe obstruction in the left kidney confirmed by a nuclear scan, the surgery recommended was pyeloplasty, which could have been done either by open surgery, laparoscopic or a robotic assisted approach.

On the successful momentous occasion, Dr. Vaddi, Senior Urologist & Managing Director, Preeti Urology & Kidney Hospitals, Hyderabad commented, “After all considerations and with parental consent, we performed the Robotic Pyeloplasty with the Made in India Surgical Robotic System – The SSI Mantra, as this system provided the crystal clear 3D 4K vision with a greater magnified view, increased precision with wristed instruments, better access to the target area, and ergonomic comfort to the surgeon. We believe that this highly anticipated successful surgery marks the dawn of a new era in Indian medical surgery. The successful outcome of the operation underscores the potential of indigenous Indian innovation to revolutionize surgical care, making it safe, precise, and affordable for all.

On the landmark achievement, Founder, Chairman & CEO, SS Innovations, Dr. Sudhir Prem Srivastava and the brain behind SSI Mantra System, known as the Robo Doctor, said, We congratulate the family, doctors and all the members of the hospital in achieving this successful accomplishment. We firmly believe that our indigenous surgical robotic system will become widely embraced, paving the way for a future, where safe and affordable robotic surgeries will co-exist with the need and will cater to all walks of life across India. Furthermore, we are proud to drive India’s journey towards healthcare self-reliance, where SSI Mantra will empower surgeons nationwide to undertake complex surgeries at affordable prices.

With SSI Mantra System the vision of SSI is to make Gold Standard Healthcare, an affordable and accessible right for all the patients in India, who otherwise may not have had access to this level of advanced care. Dr Sudhir Prem Srivastava is the brainchild of this SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System and along with his team of young Indian engineers, have been achieving significant and noteworthy milestones with their Mantra Robotic System over the last two years in India. The SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System is the first surgical system to be made in India, and the only system in the world to be distinctly cost-effective with the capability to perform a broad-spectrum of surgical applications, including cardiac surgery. The SSI Mantra Robotic System has been granted regulatory approval in India, Indonesia and most recently, Guatemala. The SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System is clinically validated in more than 50 different types of surgical procedures and now over 32 installations, and more than 1000 successful surgeries, have been performed to date. SS Innovations expects to secure regulatory approvals in the United States and Europe in the 2024 – 2025.

With the successful completion of the Robotic Pyeloplasty, the one-year-old patient is now ready for discharge. This historic surgery marks the first-ever example of robotic surgery performed on an infant of such a tender age, showcasing the advanced capabilities of the SSI Mantra Surgical Robotic System. This success story marks the beginning of a new chapter in India’s healthcare journey, where innovation meets affordability, and accessibility to redefine surgical excellence.
