Tanaz Mohammed has inspired hundreds of people with her determination and hard work to break the gender barrier and achieve the impossible in the field of sports.
Tanaz Mohammed received the Women Iconza award on 2nd March 2021. Marketing Minds X Times Applaud presents these awards. This event is specially curated to honour the unstoppable women of our society. It is a platform where the most influential female professionals who have made outstanding contributions in various fields are honoured. She received the most coveted award from Member of Parliament Shri Vinayak Rautji.
Tanaz Mohammed journey in sports began with Athletics at the tender age of seven. Soon after, she started playing hockey and played the sport at the national and international levels. Playing hockey changed her from a shy, timid girl to a confident young lady.
Tanaz Mohammed completed her Bachelor’s degree in Commerce in 2013. Although she played continuously through college, it took her two years to figure out what exactly she wanted to do. She finally enrolled herself for Postgraduate studies in Sports Management Studies in 2015. She always gave equal importance to sports and studies. she knew with utmost dedication her journey can be successful. She believed in the fact that “there is no alternative to hard work”.
Sooner her hard work paid off, she was selected to play for the Seniors National Hockey Tournament. And because of her marvellous performance she was adjourned as the Gold Medallist student of 2015-16.
At this time, she started playing football that took her achievements to the next level. She left no stone unturned to make an identity for herself. Her hard work paid off, and she became a Coach Educator who trained other coaches. She is also a Grassroots Development Officer, working with kids. She played an essential role in encouraging women and girls to participate in football, acting as role models for young people and prospective coaches.
Tanaz Mohammed is an inspiration for the kids and trains them in various sports, giving them the exposure they need to excel. Along with kids, she decided to motivate youth, especially females. She knew that many females do not bring out their potential because of self-made barriers. She educated them about various opportunities available to them.
Tanaz Mohammed made around eight hundred girls and their parents realise that even girls could play football, even while wearing a Hijab. The schools in that locality boost a Girls Football Team of their own, which is a remarkable achievement.
Once the girls started playing, their mothers were also inspired to take some time for themselves and do light exercise. She has trained around 150 coaches, both male and female, into Community Coaching Football. She has even introduced many underprivileged children to the game of football, inspiring them to lead a better life. Today, Tanaz breaks the barriers by teaching hockey and football to kids and working as a primary fitness trainer for Under-6 children.
Tanaz Mohammed was recently awarded the Apollo Go the Distance Hero Award to work towards women empowerment through sports and community work.
The British council recognised her work. Prestigious names like Premier Skills, Premier League & the FIFA Women’s World Cup were not behind complimenting her work. she was even felicitated by People Who Usually Don’t Lecture.
She has successfully changed the perception of women in sports. Her persistence and hard work have inspired the girls, but even the males look up to her for guidance in the development of sports.
Tanaz Mohammed follows a simple rule- Believe in yourself and listen to the little voice in your head. Do not compare yourself to others. Each one of us is unique. Find your purpose in life and pursue it diligently. Success will be yours.
