We all have certain expectations from the annual budget. We have come up with quotes from The FM presented a digital Budget, yet another first of India. It is a small step but goes to show the intent of this govt to move to digital transformation in every way possible. Indian Courts have been under tremendous pressure with limited availability of judges. Longer litigation results in higher costs, procedural hassles that consumers and companies suffer. The proposed MCA21 Version 3.0 will roll out e-scrutiny and other compliance management initiatives thereby bringing down the legal costs for companies and individuals.

Education has been a strong pillar of Budget FY-21 and the allocation of 38,325.15 crores for Higher Education in Budget Estimate 2021-22 will set the right pace. The NEP (National Education Policy) will certainly be realized now. The legislation to set-up the Higher Education Commission of India as an umbrella body will also materialize this year. The government will also promote enhanced academic collaboration with foreign higher educational institutions. This is definitely going to set a better path for the education system in India.”
“Also, the National Digital Educational Architecture (NDEAR) will mark as “the dawn of a new era” (paraphrasing the Finance Minister) for the EduTech segment in India. Technological interventions in democratizing higher education will open new avenues for aspiring youth. Institutions like ours, have embraced the same since the COVID-19 pandemic struck the world last year. Now, with the budget FY-21 paving the same path ahead for us, we should consider this as a golden opportunity. “ – Arvind Jyot Sabhaney, Chairman and CEO of TEAM.i – the Entertainment and Media Institute.

Mr. Arvind Goenka, Chairman, The Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL)
“Hon. Union Finance Minister (FM) presented a progressive and transparent Budget to stimulate growth in the economy after a global pandemic. FM stated that our manufacturing sector has to grow in double digits on a sustained basis to achieve a USD 5 trillion economy. Government has to encourage plastics’ manufacturing companies need to become an integral part of global supply chains, possess core competence and cutting-edge technology. But PLEXCONCIL has been seeking the inclusion of plastics under the PLI Scheme. We welcome the review of 400 existing custom exemptions this year. PLEXCONCIL requests for reduction in customs duty on Plastic raw materials. Naphtha’s custom duty lowered will help the production of plastic raw materials.  Finished goods of plastics should have attracted higher duties. We welcome the announcement to review the inverted duty structure under GST. But there is no allocation for MEIS shipments made for 2019-20 and 2020-21 – we seek clarity on the same. The government’s focus on providing alternative discoms and reduction in cross-subsidy shall help industrial consumers. MSMEs in the plastics industry will benefit from Collateral free loans for businesses. The increased outlay for road and rail infrastructure shall help logistics movement within the country/ICD.”

“We at NextBillion.ai are very excited with the current Union budget for 2021 announced by Hon. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The budget fully recognises the impact of startups and how technology plays an important role in the future of digital India and Atmanirbhar Bharat. We think the one-year extension of tax holidays is a great move to support the entrepreneurs. The government is now focusing on many more types of companies especially through incentivising OPC, the government is going all out in supporting small business and entrepreneurship. The budget also touches upon the use of AI and we like how it is used to develop the national language translation project. We think this will be a great step forward in creating India to be a global centre for NLP and associated R&D. Overall really excited to see the effort the government is taking to move India forward-towards a digital society.”
