New Delhi, 25 August 2020: BeatO – India’s leading digital ecosystem for diabetes care and management – has introduced a free virtual diabetes clinic service for 60-years plus Type 1 users with uncontrolled diabetes.
Since people with chronic conditions such as diabetes are at high risk from COVID-19 complications, they need to observe extreme precautions and reduce outdoor visits. Consequently, patients cannot visit their doctors. The situation is more serious for people living in tier 2 and tier 3 cities who travel to the metros to consult doctors. Without timely treatment and follow-up visits, these patients are at high risk of developing severe, life-threatening complications.
To address the concerns of such patients, BeatO has opened their Virtual Diabetes Clinic – available free for their users, who are identified via HealthNeuronTM – BeatO’s AI triaging system.
Currently, the focus is on users who most need an intervention and fulfil the following criterion:
- Have consistently high sugar levels since some days and may need a change of medications
- Persons with Type 1 diabetes or identified as patients using insulin
- Those above 60 years
- People having some complication as identified via the BeatO Diabetes Educator service
Through BeatO’s HealthNeuronTM system, BeatO is able to monitor people with Diabetes real time, and provide timely triggers for proactive intervention through specialists as soon as the system senses a need for this intervention. Given the intervention is real time makes the impact all the more significant, and BeatO is already seeing a big improvement in sugar levels of its user population who have availed of this (with sugar level improvement of ~20%).
BeatO has provided about 9,000 specialist and educator consultations in just the last one month to those in need and will be scaling this up significantly in the coming days.
Through the Virtual Diabetes Clinic, users can easily engage in video or teleconsultations with top doctors and specialists (endocrinologists, ophthalmologists, rheumatologists, and others) across India, or even invite their practitioner to use the platform.
BeatO deploys an AI engine to intervene proactively, sharing alerts with users on their sugar levels, diet, physical activity and medication as well as sharing the same with users’ caregivers instantly. Depending on the situation, the app also alerts users’ diabetes educators and doctors to provide actionable insights.
