Kindly Introduce yourself to our readers
I am HR Professional , Trainer and a Author. I am an HR Professional by degree, became trainer by passion and POSH consultant for helping people.
How has your journey been from being in a Corporate to a Soft Skills Trainer?
I have pursued my PG in Management and specialized in Human Resource Management with distinction. I always had keen interest in people matters and had leanings towards Training & Development.
However, I also simultaneously harbored a strong passion for attaining a PhD degree and then embark upon an entrepreneurial journey in the area of skill development to become a change agent for many lives across the various strata of the society. It was my sheer passion and single-minded focus that enabled me to successfully pursue and attain both my dreams even when I was continuously juggling between my home and work responsibilities.
I feel successfully transitioned from a fruitful corporate life to a demanding entrepreneurship journey in 2016 just a year and half after giving birth to her second child. I also utilized her brief maternity-related break to fulfill most of my doctoral thesis requirements and also getting trained on becoming a professional trainer from IATD.
I took baby steps in the world of skill development in late 2016 and soon found a firm footing and thereafter never had to look back. One prestigious assignment lead to other and soon I had an impressive repertoire of clients across IT, BFSI, Retail, Manufacturing industries.
Does it ever happens to you that being a Soft Skills Trainer you have been considered as a English Teacher as well?
Yes, many times it happens. People associate soft skills with English speaking skills. It is a myth. The fact is that soft skills have no connection with any specific language. Soft skills deal with how you speak but not in which language you are speaking. But Soft Skills training is training that focuses on developing skills such as communication, teamwork and problem solving.
Apart from Soft Skills Trainer you have also mentioned that you are PoSH consultant? What is PoSH all about?
The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act) was enacted as a comprehensive legislation to provide a safe, secure and enabling environment, free from sexual harassment to every woman. The POSH Act provides protection against sexual harassment for every woman who has visited a workplace. That means, a woman can complain if she faces sexual harassment in her workplace or a workplace of another person.
Is PoSH is a gender based or neutral? What is the awareness rate of PoSH in India?
The POSH Act is only for Women, but now a days many organizations are focusing on being gender neutral. When we talk about Harassment, its is not only restricted to only 1 gender, that is the reason many companies are implementing Gender Neutral policy.
As a POSH Consultant, awareness is still very low. There are many companies who still don’t have POSH policies in their organization. Most companies are hesitant to invest in POSH training because they believe it will be a waste of money that will not yield positive benefits for the company’s well-being. As a POSH Consultant, we need to work and create more awareness among people.
What is your message for the youth of our country?
I would say to all youth, they should not try too hard but to keep trying till you succeed with a positive attitude and confidence and Never have self-doubt. And always focus on learning.
