Google enhances AI chatbot Bard with multiple updates, including nine Indian languages

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Tech giant Google has announced several updates for its generative AI chatbot, Bard, including support for multiple languages, including nine Indian languages. With this update, Bard can now engage with users in their native languages, enhancing accessibility and usability.

Bard – Expanded Language Support and Customization Options

Bard now supports more than 40 languages globally, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Gujarati, and Urdu. Users can also listen to Bard’s responses in these languages. Additionally, users have the option to customize the tone and style of Bard’s responses across different formats.

New Feature for Image Analysis

Google has introduced a new feature that allows users to add images to prompts when interacting with Bard. This enables the chatbot to analyze the images and provide relevant information or captions based on the visual content.

Expansion to New Countries

Google has expanded the availability of Bard to new countries, although specific details have not been disclosed yet. This move comes two months after the company announced its plans to roll out Bard to over 180 countries worldwide during its Google I/O 2023 event.

Bard’s Architecture and Future Improvements

Bard is built on Google’s neural network architecture, Transformers, and its large language model (LLM) called LaMDA. This underlying architecture enables the chatbot to understand user queries with improved context and generate more natural and conversational responses. Google acknowledges that there is still room for improvement and plans to integrate the chatbot more closely with its suite of products while exploring advancements in visual responses and search engine integration.

While Google faced delays in launching Bard in India, its commitment to technological advancements and leveraging extensive data reserves positions the company well in the AI chatbot landscape. As competition intensifies in the AI space, the introduction of language support and customization options by the chatbot adds to the rivalry between Google and its competitors. OpenAI, for example, recently introduced language support for its AI chatbot ChatGPT, including several Indian languages.
