  • How did Richa and Raina identify the societal taboos surrounding hair extensions in India? What motivated them to challenge these conventions?

Our father was already in the hair extensions business exporting to other countries but what we observed was there was not much awareness and demand of hair extensions in our country. So we decided to fill this gap and launched our online portal here in India. When we started we came across a lot of misconceptions around hair extensions as people thought that hair extensions are worn by people who have some hair issues and due to these we observed that people were wary of using them. Then we decided to educate people about hair extensions and slowly started to dispel the myths that they had garnered about hair extensions.

  • Could you elaborate on the specific challenges they faced in breaking these taboos and how they overcame them?

The market was fraught with suspicion as it still is. People are usually skeptical in using hair extensions and talking about hair problems is difficult too as people prefer to keep private about such matters as they think that hair extensions are worn by people with hair diseases so winning the confidence of customers was difficult. Having said that, with our expertise in this field we knew the nature of the problem that our clients had and curated our products accordingly. Seeing the response that we’ve had, we are seeing the change in the general perception around hair extensions and in a way hair related problems are becoming less stigmatized.

  • What were the main obstacles that Richa and Raina encountered while establishing 1 Hair Stop? How did they navigate through these challenges?

The dynamic nature of the Hair industry keeps us on our toes. Ours is not  pursuit for the complacent. There is always some new competition or trend that challenges us. To combat this we stand by the motto of constant innovation. The culture that we create facilitates fresh ideation and creative solutions. Navigating through this market has been a challenge which has only made us stronger.

  • Can you provide examples of how they disrupted the hair extension industry in India? What innovative strategies did they employ to stand out in the market?

We decided to become the brand ambassador of our own products. We did not seek outsider’s help to champion the cause of hair extensions. We dispelled the taboo of hair extensions being only for ailing individuals and introduced them as a fashion accessory that can be used to enhance one’s appearance. We stand out as we offer consistent quality in many different styles. There is a long lasting hair extension for everyone.

  • How does 1 Hair Stop ensure the quality and longevity of their hair extensions?

The one piece of skepticism people always have against hair extensions is about their longevity and we understand that. Our hair is produced over the course of several weeks and during this time they are washed. Every ounce of grease is removed before further approval. At every step we are mindful of quality. Our attention to detail enables us to provide good quality products that are soft and comfortable to wear while being strong and durable. The smallest of products flows through the hands of several dozen artisans and is worked upon for hundreds of man hours in our own facilities to achieve nothing short of perfection.

  • How does 1 Hair Stop cater to the diverse needs of its customers in terms of hair type, texture, and length?

We are dedicated to fulfilling the requirements of all women and that cannot be done without considering the fact that we all have different follicles. While formulating new ideas we carefully consider diversity in our plans in order to create extensions for each type, texture, length and color.

  • What steps does 1 Hair Stop take to ensure ethical sourcing and sustainable practices in their manufacturing process?

We are committed to being an environmentally conscious business and with this aim we have a no plastic policy for our products. All extensions used are made from real hair. We are also a socially sustainable enterprise that recognizes the importance of diversity in the workplace and offers employment to women from all social cultural backgrounds.
